NPR reports that over the past 3 years, Medicare has been overcharged an excess of $30 billion by different health insurers, and recuperating the money is a slow and difficult process. Medicare Advantage plans are the cause of this crisis.
Some Medicare Advantage plans have created a pattern of operating as if it is acceptable to overbill and to make unsubstantiated claims about their patients conditions or illnesses. Kaiser Health News, KHN, reports that this has now initiated a series of audits.
